Walking to the tunes of silence

It was an early winter morning. I walked the way, headphones hanging across my neck; not plugged in as yet. It was all astonishingly silent about me. It was habitual for me to plug them in as soon as I started with my morning walk. But today, I didn’t feel the impulse to do so. I kept pacing ahead, my breath getting faster with each passing moment as they way to the hill became steeper. The minutes ticked by, the atmosphere grew foggier and the silence- deeper and vocal in its own way. It gave way to far more beautiful and unheard sounds- the wonderful cooing of the birds, the differing footsteps of the passer-bys, the sound of the motorcycle; which, I observed had a distinct pattern to it and of course the language of silence that was musical in its own special way. I finished my climb and reached the top to witness the sunrise. I looked at it fixedly, not wanting to miss a single moment of that magical phenomenon. The temple bell rung- heralding a new day- a new chapter in a never en...

The little star

I sit out there- gazing away at the magical sunset, mesmerized by its beauty, unaware of everything. The moment has gripped me, not letting me go of its beauty and sanctity. The hues change from purplish pink and saffron to a distant gray and black. My eyes scan the sky for a sign of sustenance in the form of the moon and the stars. None seems to appear. A feeling of apprehension overcomes me. The minutes tick by, and I still patiently wait, hopeful, that there will be a sign telling me that all is not over as yet, “Nay, this isn’t the end; The best is yet to come, Nay, everything isn’t yet lost, All still hasn’t been gained. Its only when the night comes that it is followed by the day, Its only when death comes that a new birth takes place. Its only when a syllable is uttered that words are formed, Its only when something is gone that everything comes your way.” I closed my eyes and sighed. When was I going to see the dawn of my hope? I opened my eyes. The sky was still dark. There wa...

Soulless curry.

After a whole year of waiting for you, here you come in all your abhorrent fashion. Ha! But the joy of having you here with me is incomparable. I join you today, with you showering all over me, the wind caressing my face, my eyelids all dabbed in water- but my heart- its melancholy. I know, you mean happiness, everything around me is a manifestation of joy divine, but I don’t understand the dampness of spirit that my mind is dewed in today. I’m walking in rhythm to your pitter patter but the symphony of my heart is sad, yet happy. Maybe you have understood that and so you shower harder, making me run and scream in shock and happiness. I halt and stand on the walkway, facing the sea. The surroundings are misty, fogged. The waves are splashing on the shore… why am I trying to smile, although I should have in fact, done so naturally? My true joy was you, and all that is there right now, but there is something missing. I know you all are there, but the essence and soul isn’t. I know it is ...

The glue that binds 'batting wall' together...

Rahul Dravid never enjoyed the harsh glare of captaincy - not when he was masterminding many an Indian win, and definitely not when the team didn't live up to its potential, most notably at the 2007 World Cup. It didn’t come as too big a surprise to many who know the self-contained Bangalorean reasonably well that he chucked the job after two years in the hot seat, preferring to step back and focus on his own batting. While captaincy didn’t affect his batting adversely at all, the last year and a half hasn’t been too kind to the classy right-hander. At various stages, his form has been patchy, but not without reason do they say that class is permanent. A rare barren spell at the international level terminated with a battling 26th Test ton against England in Mohali in December – India haven’t played a Test since – Dravid has silenced wagging tongues and ended loose talk questioning his place in the side. Through his leanish trot, the 36-year-old never doubted himself, though increas...

Memories…

Alone I stand amidst the busy streets of life, Unsure of the dark paths and the bright lights alike. Suddenly there is someone knocking on my mind, "Memories, I am", says the sweet voice from behind! I am your childhood games that you won; Your boyhood puzzles left undone. I am the Yellow tree that offered the shade. I am your memories and I never fade. I am those pictures that you smiled in, And those mischiefs you were involved in. I am your sweet times, bitter ones as well. Instantly I come to ring that bell. I am that dear friend you always looked for. I am the cost you lost her dearly for! The silly strife you had with them all. I am your soul mate, I am your pal. I am those mistakes ignorantly you made, And your good thoughts, which have YOU, made. I am all you lost; I am all you gained. I am the boats that you sailed when it rained. I am your Present that runs into Past. I present you with the Past; I present them to you fast! Deep inside, you laugh and you cry. Beside...

I Try To Remember It

# Everybody Doesn’t Have To Love Me … Not everybody has to love me or even like me. I don’t necessarily like everybody I know, so y should everybody else like me? I enjoy being liked and being loved. But if somebody doesn’t love me, I will still be okay and feel like I am an okay person. I cannot make somebody like me, any more than someone can get me to like them. I don’t need approval all the time, if someone doesn’t approve of me then also I will be okay. # It’s Okay To Make Mistakes… Making mistakes is something we all do, and I am still a fine and worthwhile person when I make them. There is no reason for me to get upset when I make a mistake. I am trying, and if I make a mistake. I am going to continue trying. I can handle making mistakes. It is okay for others to make mistakes, too. I will accept mistakes in myself and also mistakes that others make. # Other People Are Okay and I Am Okay … People who do things I don’t like are not necessarily bad people. They should not necessar...
