“Where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know… I feel like going anywhere and everywhere- but not turn back ever again.”
“And what is it that you seek?”
I hesitated. “Well… myself? Maybe yes, maybe not. Well... something deeper. I seek that which is not sought by anyone else. Can you tell me what that is?”
“It is that which only you will want- something that no one can take from you. It is that which will make you far more powerful than anyone else if you happen to get it.”
“But power isn’t that which I seek!”
“Then it will make you far more profound, if that is what you seek. You have answered your question then.”
“Yes… but then I come back to what I said. I seek my profound self.”
“Precisely. But how are you going to get it?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know anything in fact.”
“You do. Everyone does. Those who realize don’t want to live it. And those who don’t just don’t want to seek it. Those who stumble by it fail to see it. And they all go around searching for it when it is all within them.”
I thought I heard a slight laughter in the tone.
“Well then, having realized it, how do you go about living it, as you said?”
“There isn’t a way to live it. You can live it in your own wonderful way. There is no stopping you!”
“I don’t know. But no one will accept the true me.”
“You seek acceptance then?”
“Nay, I seek me!”
“Then why do you attempt for acceptance? Just go on living yourself. Acceptance and shunning is a matter of no importance to those who are happy being who they are. Because the true you is in fact, flawless, entirely beautiful, and complete. Only the blind can fail to see the magnificence of your spirit and the deaf fail to hear the melody of your voice.”
“Whose am I?”
“Nobody’s.”
“What?”
“Because you belong to everyone. But no one owns you.”
“That’s a wonderful feeling- elevating, freeing in its own way, isn’t it?”
“Yes indeed. You are no one’s! - as frivolous as the wind, as frisky as the flying bird…”
“…. I am scared though… of losing myself nowhere.”
“Only the courageous can afford to be so, you see…”
A laughter rung clear in the silence that had until now dominated the vacuum of the surroundings. I opened my eyes and looked out at the clear fields, unplugging my headsets and smiled to myself- a free spirit now, reaching out to someone who was not so far, yet too near to hold on to.
